Dr. Firestein retires from Rutgers University and establishes new lab at UK COM

Dr. Firestein retired from Rutgers University as a Distinguished Professor of Cell Biology and Neuroscience after 25 1/2 years. On January 1, 2026, she assumed her new role as Chair and Professor of Pharmacology and Nutritional Sciences at UK College of Medicine. Dr. Fabio Tescarollo, Dr. Niharika Amireddy, and Kaavyashri Anbumani moved with Dr. Firestein. PhD students Shradha Suresh and Brandon Vaglio remain at Rutgers University, where Dr. Firestein remains Distinguished Professor Emerita, and they are being advised by her remotely.
